What Happened
Christmas Day! Feliz navidad!
Today was a very chill and easy day – I mostly just ate and filled my time wondering around and biking around town. With the groceries from yesterday, I made a large breakfast hash with chorizo, eggs, onion, and potato. I added some queso fresca and salsa to the mix too. This was a lot of food – probably too much for one sitting. I am feeling very feast or famine right now – either eating a lot of bad food or a heck of a lot of good food. Maybe my stomach is expanding – we shall see…
After breakfast I read a little and packed up the bike for the little day ride that I wanted to do: up and down the bike path. I didn’t have a ton else to do, so this seemed like the best way to move my legs. I maneuvered my bike down the very tight stairs and was off! I rode as north as I could along the bike path – passing a lot of good murals and a huge yacht that sunk. That put me at a pretty empty part of town- ie absolutely no one. So I turned around and went back the other way.
Town was POPPING today and it was fun to see all the kids out with their new scooters, roller blades, and push car things. I biked south from town and down to the giant yellow square again. Here I sat watching the pelicans and just enjoyed being outside. There was a lot more wind today – so I didn’t try to go all the way to the southern end. I already knew what it was and this was the better part.
After killing some time on the bike path, I decided it was time to try and brave the supermarket. The first one I went to was basically empty – go figure – and was easy to navigate. It’s so interesting to see how different the US treats stores versus here. There are hundreds of small stores everywhere, but they don’t sell a lot. Grace called as I went to the second store and it also wasn’t that bad (Ley’s). I was able to get a lot of the bars which were hard to find and stock back up.
After the grocery stores, I went back to the Airbnb and ate another large helping of yogurt – trying to kill 800g in ~24hrs is hard – and then took a good cat nap on the couch. After the nap I decided to get back up and go down to the beach – walking this time. Once at the beach, my dad and I talked for a while, just catching up and I also read a bit more too.
After the sun set, I went back up to the Airbnb to prepare the bike. I cleaned up my things, took a good shower, and ate more yogurt…
The plan for tomorrow was to wake up early and get the pavement mountain climb done as early as I could – reducing the risk of being hit (in my mind) – and beating the heat.
