What Happened

Today was an overall shorter day on the bike. I started the morning a little bit later than I had intended even after almost 12 hours of sleep I still didn’t want to get up. Today was the last day of my oatmeal supply, and IToday was an overall shorter day on the bike. I started the morning a little bit later than I had intended even after almost 12 hours of sleep I still didn’t want to get up. Today was the last day of my oatmeal supply, and I added some granola, which honestly made it so much better.

It only took me a little bit over an hour to make it into town today. This was one of the smaller towns that I’ve passed through and it only had two very small tiendas. Most of the food in there was processed – I was even unable to find a banana today. After doing a quick circle of town, I decided to stop at the hotel for second breakfast. There I had a really great mix of food. I ordered a platter with Carne Asada, peppers, eggs, beans, and a very tiny quesadilla. It was definitely more food than I wanted at the time, but I knew that I needed to eat it. The hotel also had free Wi-Fi so I sat for a little bit and also charged up my phone. They also had a mirror in the bathroom and so that was the first time that I’ve seen myself since coming here – I don’t look half bad.

After the stop in town, I went back to get more water. It’s been difficult trying to plan out how much water I need and how much of a reserve that I’m comfortable with. Most of the time I have been making it with 3 L of water extra. From town I cycled another hour or so and eventually found an Arroyo that was not fenced. I turned my bike down, and ended up at a beautiful beach all to myself.

I spent the rest of the afternoon reading, snorkeling, practicing holding my breath, and just walking around the beach. During the first snorkel, I found it pretty amazing at just how terrified I was of going out into the deeper water. Something about being all alone without the safety of other people there really did something to me. In the subsequent snorkels, I did venture further and deeper. I’m hoping that tomorrow I will be diving down past 15 feet the Max that I made it to today was eight.

The big thought that I had today Wise around what I’m going to do until my Airbnb. I’m going to try and stay at the same beat all day tomorrow. I should have enough water – 3.5 L just for tomorrow – and still be able to make it into the next town on 2 L. This is definitely cutting it closer than I have been in the past but I think I will be okay.

Sunset tonight was very beautiful and I took most of the photos that I captured today during that time. I’m excited for the stars to come out again. It’s been a new moon the last few nights and honestly can say that these are the best stars that I’ve ever seen.

I spent most of the evening reading and transferring photos from my camera onto my phone. I didn’t do a transfer last night and so tonight took almost an hour. It’s been really fun hearing the manta rays jump all night. Kind of sounds like the Fourth of July. One difference with this beach is that there are a lot of fishing boats out. Right after sunset all of them came out and have been going up and down the shore. I wonder if there is be fishing right at dusk
