What Happened
Today was such an amazing day. I woke up early, watch the sunrise on the water, and then hit the road on my bike.
I had about 15 miles to go until I reached the next town. The road getting there had a few more steep, climbs than I was anticipating – Garmins don’t always show the most information. After a pretty quick pedal, I was out of the mountains and onto flatter roads. After about two hours of riding, I reached the town of Cabo Plumo. Once there, I did a quick bike around town to see what food options I would have. I noticed three bikepacking bikes hanging outside of a café and on my second pass through town decided to stop into the cafe.
At the cafe, I chatted with the owners of the bikes – three ladies – about their trip and what they have seen so far. I ordered some tasty breakfast and began to research my options for the rest of the day / week. The ladies had talked about wind sports in La Ventura and that sounded pretty appealing to me – so I was considering taking more time there. After doing a little research it became clear that this would be the best snorkeling of the trip as there is a reef right off of Cabo Plumo – which is not something I wanted to pass up. Airbnbs were $78 a night and I was ready to pull the trigger. I decided to try and find a snorkel tour and then book my Airbnb. I went to a dive shop, asked a few questions, and got told that there were no more tours happening today. They did, however, mention that the best snorkeling would be back at a beach that I’ve already passed. This is where the other group of bike packers was also heading for the day. I decided that I would be silly not to also head there. I went to a small grocery store, stocked up on some basics, and took off towards the small snorkeling beach.
The rest of my day was spent at this beach, snorkeling, getting to know the other bike, packers, and relaxing. It’s kind of hard to think that during a whole day most of my time is still taken up. Living life in a very full way doesn’t leave a lot of time to sit and work to document it either. during some of the many conversations, I filled out a 2026 read list, got to hear some very enduring stories, and enjoyed the company of others
